Authorising with HMRC

Learn how to authorise your ClearPort account with HMRC.

For ClearPort to send and receive messages from HMRC's system on your behalf, you must complete the authorisation process on ClearPort.

Step 1 - Pre-requisites & Gathering the Information you need

In order for you to complete the task of authorizing with HMRC, you will need to gather the following pieces of information:

GB or XI EORI number

An Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number is a reference number that uniquely identifies your organisation. You can apply for an EORI number whether your business is based in the UK or not. You can apply for this at: https://www.gov.uk/eori/apply-for-eori

Government Gateway ID

You must have your Government Gateway Id that is related to the EORI number that you wish to use. You receive this when you apple for an EORI number.

  • Once you have found and noted down the appropriate information you will need, navigate and click on the settings button located within the sidebar navigation.
  • When you have done this, click the dropdown button appears titled ‘HMRC’

Step 3 - HMRC Page on ClearPort

  • After clicking the HMRC button, you will be taken to the HMRC page on ClearPort.
  • Click the button titled ‘+ HMRC Authorisation’. This is situated in the top left corner of the page, next to the sidebar navigation.

Step 4 - Select Systems

  • After clicking the ‘+ HMRC Authorisation’ button, a pop up will appear titled ‘Select Systems’.
  • Situated here is a list of the systems
  • Select the systems that you want ClearPort to be authorised to use.
  • Then click the ‘Confirm’ button.

Step 5 - HMRC Website

  • You will then be redirected to the HMRC website
  • Here you will be asked to log in with your Government Gateway ID.
  • You should then proceed to follow the instructions given to you on the HMRC website.

Step 6 - ClearPort

  • Once you have completed and followed all the instructions given to you on the HMRC website, you will be redirected back to ClearPort.
